Looking for a job while you’re traveling the world at large? Whether you want to volunteer in trade for accommodation, or sink your teeth into something that pays (or a little of both), Globals At Work might just have what you want.


What is Globals At Work?

Globals At Work is an online job board that connects travelers with local employers around the world. Many of the jobs are seasonal or temporary, and some include accommodation and occasionally food as well.

Some examples of jobs you might find to whet your appetite:

  • Harvest jobs in New Zealand
  • Surf instructor in Fiji
  • Work in a Sydney hotel
  • Waiter in a hip New York restaurant
  • Skiing instructor high up in the Alps
  • Content editor for an advertising agency


Globals At Work is free for both the traveler/employee and employer to use.


Finding Jobs Abroad With Globals At Work

Globals At Work is similar to many of the online classified systems for the likes of house-sitting and volunteering; it’s a secure platform for the candidate and employer to connect and communicate about the job at hand.

And similar to other job boards, it’s up to the traveler to have a good profile, be quick on the draw with new postings, and put your best foot forward when contacting employers.


Dotting the legal i’s and crossing t’s is the employee’s responsibility, although some prospective employers might help with getting the necessary visas, or they may consider sponsoring or extending a working visa if you’re particularly qualified for the job.

Otherwise, you need to have a working holiday visa or equivalent ability to work in the country you’re going to. Some work-trade positions don’t require visas, and sometimes employers might not ask; it’s up to the traveler/employee to make sure all is in order.



Globals At Work provides a secure communication platform for initial contact. But it’s up to you to verify the employer and the job before you book your ticket. A simple online search can usually indicate if the employer is bonafide and adheres to the proper health and safety requirements.

Something I don’t like about registering with this site is that they ask for my birthdate as a requirement.

That means that they are one data breach away from compromising my info for easy ID theft, plus it could also be used as an age discrimination screening tool.

Interesting point. On the flip side, registering with a birthday could help verify you as a member, which, when being hired from abroad, is a good thing. I’m really not sure – I’ll ask the folks at Globals At Work to respond to this issue.

Hi John! Thank you for your reaction. We ask for the birthdate because it helps to give a good & short overview of the user´s profile, as you would also include your birthdate in your resume when you apply for a job. Next to that we want to make sure everybody participating is at least 18 years of age. Age / birthday information is commonly required at other well-known (travel) websites as well, we feel it isn´t out of place although we do understand your considerations.

Not in the US, and especially not in the open on any web site. Perhaps things are different where you are based, or there are some very effective safeguards in place I know nothing about that make hacking your database impossible.

The most that is usually required here is an affirmation that I am legally employable and am legally an adult; normally this is via statement of birth year only, with full birth date provided upon actual application for position when both sides are satisfied that there is a possibility of a mutually satisfactory arrangement with safe information exchange on both sides.

Yes, in the USA it is illegal to ask a prospective employee their age/birthdate.
