What Kind of Spider is This?

This lovely creature was spotted living just outside my front door below the roof. It is about three centimetres long (a little more than one inch), and looks mighty scary.
Anyone? Anyone?

We have one of these above our front door, next to the light. I think she likes catching the moths.
It’s just a garden spider : )

Hmm. Wish I could help. Doesn’t look like any I’ve seen on this side of the country. As long as he’s outside, I guess that’s a good thing.
