For sailors, when they smell the surf, they describe it as smelling land. Only because I've had a flying experience just like it, in this teeny-tiny rickety old plane (my perception, of course, and not very accurate) flying over the mountains in Panama, throwing us around like mad and I was sure we were about to plunge to our death the entire time.
